My Speech

This is my speech that I wrote, the topic is bullying but
I did not stand up and persent it because I got stage fright.

Did you know nearly 1 in 10 people in the last year are scared that someone would
hurt or bother them?  Hello my name is Mia and today I am going to be talking about
bullying. First of all, is bullying okay?, of course it’s not.  Hands up if you have been a victim
of bullying. *pause*. There is a difference of being a bully and being rude, being rude is just
saying bad things about them once, but being a bully is constantly hurting someone's
feelings on a daily basis.

Let’s talk about the types of bullying.  Physical, physical bullying is hurting someone with your fists.  Verbal, verbal is someway of talking but instead in harsh ways. Cyberbullying, it’s when your are bullying somebody online.  Social bullying is basically leaving people out of groups. Just like a poem I’ve heard about sticks and stones hurt more than the names they got called, but we all know that words hurt more than anything.

People who bully use their power such as physical strength,
knowing how to embarrass others or popularity to control or harm others.
Bullying is when one student or a group of people they say or do things that upset them,
they leave them out, make fun of them or keep hitting them. Bullying can take a big toll on
young people.  They can start going into depression, not wanting to leave their house,
\not wanting to go to school, which can lead to them trying to take their own life,
some people try and some succeed. We don’t want that to happen.
What we can do is try to stop bullying.  We need to show that it is okay to stand up for
someone that is not able to stand up for them self.  We can help each other out not just
face to face, but also online, and in our school playground. Making everyone feel welcome
and being nice to everyone will make bullies see that is not okay to bully.  If you are being
bullied and you think that you cannot tell a teacher, look for someone that you trust.
It is not okay to keep your sad feelings to yourself.

In conclusion, I think that being a good person, being a good friend,
and standing up for your schoolmates will help to try and stop the bullying.
Having someone that you trust will make it like you are not alone. Some kids don’t want to
tell an adult because they think that they are going to get hurt even more.  Even though I
haven’t been bullied I don’t know how the people that are getting bullied might actually feel.
But I would like to be able to help my friends and my school by stopping the bullies.  Thank you.
