About Bees!

Every week we do reading grids and to complete these reading grids you have to read the information, when your done you have to put it in a way that you can present it and this is mine!
About bees

Positive things about bees:  Bees are very important on earth,
without them plants wouldn’t survive and humans and many other things like animals,
If you want better flowers in your garden bees will be happier to help you than ever but
that means you would have to carefully move a beehive.  Honey bees are super important
pollinators for flowers , fruits and vegetables, did you know that one bee has to fly about
90,000 miles three times around the globe. A honey bee visits 50 to 100 flowers during
a collection trip. A honey bee can fly for up to six miles and as fast as 15 miles per hour.

Negative things about bees:.  Although for most people bee stings are painful but
otherwise relatively harmless.  People with insect sting allergy may trigger a dangerous
anaphylactic reaction that is potentially deadly.

Jobs for a bee:  Using tiny combs on their front legs they rake the pollen into pollen
baskets on their back legs.  Honey bees collect pollen and nectar as food for the entire
colony and as they do they pollinate plants.  Bees have an important role in the hive,
one of the roles is looking after the hive and the other is to look after the queen bee.
They keep all the cells tidy, repair any damage and make sure the hive is the right
temperature. They do this by vibrating their muscles.  Worker bees are female but are
not capable of reproducing. They do all the work in the hive and they control most of
what goes on inside.

Jobs for a Beekeeper:  Some people do beekeeping  as a hobby,
others a small business and some as a  career. Beekeepers look after the bees and
plant the flowers for the bees to the pollen.  A colony with healthy well managed bees
will produce honey and wax that you could later use or sell.  A beekeeper keeps bees in
order to collect their honey and other products that the hive produce. A beekeeper may
also be responsible for preparing bees and equipment for pollination activities. Feeding
bees cleaning and constructing hives raising and replacing queen bees.

Interesting Information about bees:  Just as bees depend on plants for their
food plants depend on bees.  Some plants self-pollinate by using pollen from the stamen
to fertilize.  The bees buzz is the sound of their wings flapping 11,400 times per minute.
The queen bee can live up to 5 years and she is the only bee that lays eggs.
The honey bee has a special honey making stomach called a crop. This is where the
honey bee stores its nectar.  Did you know that honey bees go to two million flowers a
day to just make one pound of honey. The average bee will only make 1/12 of a teaspoon
in its lifetime.
